MEET KYLE
Kyle Thompson is a native of Frankfort. He is a 1994 graduate of Franklin County High School. Kyle received a BA in Political Science and Government, with an emphasis in racial and political tolerance, from the University of Kentucky in 1998, with a minor in History. After his undergraduate studies, Kyle graduated from Ohio Northern University College of Law in 2001 where he was honored as a member of the Order of the Barristers and one of the School's Top Oral Advocate, competing and winning a number of Moot Court competitions. Kyle passed the Kentucky Bar Examination in July, 2001 and was sworn in before the Kentucky Supreme Court on October 19, 2001. After first practicing for his uncle and local legal icon, the late Herbert Liebman before his passing, Kyle was sworn in as an Assistant Franklin County Attorney where he prosecuted juvenile and abuse, neglect and dependency cases. Kyle then became the youngest General Counsel appointed to head the legal department of a state agency in 2004 when he was assigned that role with the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services. Kyle then opened his own law firm seventeen (17) years ago and he has focused his practice on domestic, criminal, business organizations, contracts, insurance, personal injury, and administrative law. Along with being licensed to practice law in all state courts of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Kyle is also licensed and has appeared numerous times before the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky and has argued before the full Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2010, Kyle was sworn into practice before the United States Supreme Court by Chief Justice John Roberts in Washington, D.C.
In January, 2014, Kyle Thompson formed Capital Court Authority, LLC, a private probation and drug testing company. The company has expanded to six (6) offices and thirty (30) employees over the last ten plus (10+) years, servicing the greater Central Kentucky area and monitoring thousands of individuals in multiple jurisdictions. In just a decade, CCA has become the largest private probation, judicial drug testing, and electronic monitoring company in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Kyle Thompson was also an adjunct professor of legal and business studies at Sullivan University in Lexington, Kentucky for ten (10) years. He has also been a member of the faculty at Indiana Wesleyan University in Louisville, Kentucky where he also taught Business Law.
A former President of the Franklin County Bar Association, Kyle has been actively involved in community charitable organizations and causes for many years. He served for three (3) years as a Board Member and Vice-Chairperson for P.U.S.H. Early Childhood Development Center; three (3) years as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairperson of the SIMON House transitional housing organization for women and children; served a three (3) year term on the Board of Directors and then served as chairperson for Avenues for Women Crisis Pregnancy Center; and was a board member for Downtown Frankfort Inc. Kyle has been twice elected to the Frankfort City Commission, a non-partisan position of Frankfort's municipal government. He was first elected in 2020 and then re-elected in 2022.
Kyle and his family are members of Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church. He is married to Jennifer Vest Thompson (Flatwoods, KY). The couple have five children between them: Emma Kate (22), Liv Reagan (19), and Landon Cooper (13); Kate Marie (17) and Ryder Gray (14); and the family has two (2) loyal dogs of many years, Scout and Pepper. They also claim two (2) 'grand' pets in Cupid the Wonder Mutt and Cowboy the Cat.
